Bourgogne in France

Latitude
45.8°–48.1° N
Vineyard altitude
214 m to 411 m
Delimited vineyard land
40,415 ha

The delimited vineyard parcels themselves, so the shape is patchy: only land within them may grow the wine. Boundary: INAO parcel delimitation (Licence Ouverte); nearby parcels drawn as one block, with less detail for larger appellations. Country outlines: Natural Earth. Dots on the zone map are the vineyard points used for climate.

Showing every colour The colour filter changes the rules and grapes. Climate, vintages and soils describe the vineyards, so they stay the same.

Seasons are labelled by harvest year (April–October). Year-to-year changes from ERA5-Land; tested against station records in Alto Adige (r = 0.94 for season temperature at Bolzano). Rain varies more locally, so treat single-season rain with some caution. Vintage ratings, harvest dates and frost or hail events have places in the data model but are not loaded yet.

Still to check (3)
  • Generated from EU reference data: check against the current product specification.
  • From the specification: The register lists Bourgogne Vézelay, Savigny-Lès-Beaune and Savigny-Lès-Beaune Premier Cru, which this cahier does not cover (left empty), and omits the 'Côte d'Or' denomination (white and red), which it does. Minimum planting density is 5000 vines/ha generally, 4000 for the Hautes Côtes, 7000 for Chitry, Côtes d'Auxerre, Côte Chalonnaise, Côtes du Couchois, Côte Saint-Jacques, Coulanges-la-Vineuse, Epineuil and Tonnerre, and 9000 for La Chapelle Notre-Dame, Le Chapitre and Montrecul. Vineyard limits differ from the blend limits recorded (pinot gris 30%, césar 10%, gamay 30% of plantings; césar and gamay only in the Yonne and the Beaujolais crus respectively); Bourgogne Gamay comes from the Beaujolais cru areas, follows those crus' own production rules and needs at least 85% gamay. Hautes Côtes wines are aged until at least 1 March after the harvest; white wines may have 4 g/l sugar when total acidity is at least 4.13 g/l.
  • National tier (DOC/DOCG) not captured yet; rules extracted from the specification text.
