Boundary drawn from whole communes, so it is a little larger than the legal zone. Boundary: Eurac Research PDO inventory (CC0). Country outlines: Natural Earth. Dots on the zone map are the vineyard points used for climate.

Showing every colour The colour filter changes the rules and grapes. Climate, vintages and soils describe the vineyards, so they stay the same.

Still to check (3)
  • Generated from EU reference data: check against the current product specification.
  • From the specification: Minimum total acidity is given as 46.6 milliequivalents per litre, not g/l tartaric acid, so it is not recorded. Main varieties (section 7) must make up 85 % of the must; the rest may come from secondary varieties not listed in the single document. Liqueur wines range from dry to medium-sweet. Grapes must come from vinhas estremes trained in goblet or cordon on andic or regolic basaltic soils; the area is land up to 150 m in four parishes of Santa Cruz. The national specification (2013) covers only the white wine (nine months' minimum ageing, which may carry Reserva or Garrafeira without further rules stated); vinification in the zone allows exceptions approved by the CVRAçores.
