Where it is

Algarve in Portugal

The protected area is the whole administrative region, so its official outline is used. Boundary: Eurostat NUTS 2021 regions (© EuroGeographics). Country outlines: Natural Earth. Dots on the zone map are the vineyard points used for climate.

Showing every colour The colour filter changes the rules and grapes. Climate, vintages and soils describe the vineyards, so they stay the same.

  • Same area as its administrative region; the boundary is the region's outline.
  • From the specification: Varieties (Anexo I) include Alfrocheiro, Aragonez, Castelão, Touriga-Nacional, Trincadeira (red) and Antão-Vaz, Arinto, Síria, Moscatel-Graúdo (white). The white liqueur wine must come from Síria (min 85%) or Moscatel-Graúdo (min 75%); the dry white liqueur wine is made by the solera method. The must natural-alcohol list repeats the acquired-alcohol figures, including 19.0% and 15.5% for liqueur wines, which cannot be natural must strengths; those two are left out. The yield is not stated as must or wine. Vines must be at least four years grafted, low-trained, pure stands; lots need at least 85% from one vintage.
