From the specification: Product specification (December 2011). Lowest limits recorded: wines from Girgentina and Ġellewża need only 9.5 % vol natural alcohol (other white and rosé 10.0 % natural and 10.5 % total; other reds 10.5 % natural and 11.0 % total; Ġellewża monovarietal red 10.5 % total). The kg/ha yields in the table (179 white/rosé, 171 red, i.e. 17.9 and 17.1 t/ha) are stated not to be legal requirements, so only hl/ha is recorded. Novello, Frizzante, semi-sparkling, aerated semi-sparkling and liqueur wine mentions follow national Legal Notice 167 of 2007; a varietal mention needs at least 85 % of that variety. Varieties are those in Legal Notice 188 of 2006, not listed in the specification. The production area is the Maltese Islands excluding the harbour area of Malta.
