Where it is

Calabria in Italy

The protected area is the whole administrative region, so its official outline is used. Boundary: Eurostat NUTS 2021 regions (© EuroGeographics). Country outlines: Natural Earth. Dots on the zone map are the vineyard points used for climate.

Showing every colour The colour filter changes the rules and grapes. Climate, vintages and soils describe the vineyards, so they stay the same.

  • Same area as its administrative region; the boundary is the region's outline.
  • From the specification: Varietal wines ('varietale' products) may name any variety suitable for Calabria and take the limits of the wine of the same colour; white varietals may also be frizzante, passito and spumante, black-grape ones rosso (frizzante, passito, novello) or rosato (frizzante, spumante). Passito grapes are dried on the vine or after harvest until the wine reaches 14% vol natural alcohol (Art. 4 gives 11% vol for the grapes). Frizzante and vivace grapes may have 0.5% vol less natural alcohol; vivace wines need 10.5% vol total. Spumante ranges from extra brut to dry. Rosso spumante appears only in Art. 6. Vinification within the Calabria region, which is the production zone.
