Worked out from the boundaries (smallest container first). They follow whole communes, so a neighbour sharing a commune can show up here too.

Boundary drawn from whole communes, so it is a little larger than the legal zone. Boundary: Eurac Research PDO inventory (CC0). Country outlines: Natural Earth. Dots on the zone map are the vineyard points used for climate.

Seasons are labelled by harvest year (April–October). Year-to-year changes from ERA5-Land; tested against station records in Alto Adige (r = 0.94 for season temperature at Bolzano). Rain varies more locally, so treat single-season rain with some caution. Vintage ratings, harvest dates and frost or hail events have places in the data model but are not loaded yet.

  • From the specification: Products are the three tiers (Villányi bor, classicus, prémium) by colour. Prémium red must spend at least 1 year in wooden casks, varietal Kadarka and Portugieser prémium at least 6 months (the lower figure is recorded). Prémium grape minimums vary by variety: 20 MM°/12.83 % for Cabernet franc, Cabernet sauvignon, Hárslevelű, Merlot, Rajnai rizling, Sauvignon blanc, Tramini; 19 MM°/12.08 % for Kékfrankos, Olaszrizling, Pinot noir, Syrah, Zweigelt; 18.5 MM°/11.71 % Chardonnay; 18 MM°/11.34 % Ottonel muskotály; 17.5 MM°/10.97 % Kadarka, Kékoportó (lowest recorded). Density: classicus at least 3,000 and prémium at least 5,000 vines/ha (classicus max. 8 buds/m² for gobelet, 6 otherwise, 20 per vine; prémium max. 6 buds/m², 15 per vine; prémium training: umbrella, Guyot, gobelet, low and medium-high cordon). Sweetening is prohibited for classicus and prémium wines and for late-harvest wines (which may not be enriched either); semi-dry to sweet wines only from naturally ripe Hárslevelű, Ottonel muskotály, Olasz rizling, Rajnai rizling, Sárga muskotály or Tramini. Total acidity range 4–10 g/l. Classicus and prémium are sold in glass bottles only; prémium may be produced and bottled only in Baranya county, Villányi and classicus also in Somogy and Tolna.
