From the specification: Technical file AM01 (2014). Although registered as a PGI, this document calls Balaton a protected designation of origin (OEM) and is referenced PDO-HU-A1507-AM01. Categories: wine and sparkling wine (pezsgő), each white, rosé and red. Grapes need 151.5 g/l sugar (9 % vol); maximum bud load 14 buds/m2; hand or machine harvest; sweetening only within the zone or the listed neighbouring processing area. Vineyards planted after 22 September 2006: listed training systems and at least 3,300 vines/ha. Zone: the Badacsony, Balatonboglár, Balaton-felvidék, Balatonfüred-Csopak, Nagy-Somló and Zala wine districts. Main varieties: Zweigelt, Zöld veltelini, Cabernet sauvignon, Cabernet franc, Furmint, Ezerjó, Kékfrankos, Kadarka, Hárslevelű, Cserszegi fűszeres, Chasselas, Chardonnay, Olasz rizling, Merlot, Rizlingszilváni, Rajnai rizling, Pinot noir. 'Palackban erjesztett' (bottle-fermented) is only a permitted label term, so no sparkling method is recorded.
