  • From the specification: Amended product specification (Ares(2013)3472338). Types: white, red and rosé (ερυθρωπός) wines each dry, semi-dry, semi-sweet and sweet; white and red liqueur wine (λικέρ, 15-22 % vol actual, made from partially fermented must of at least 12 % vol natural with added vine-based alcohol or distillate); Liastos (wine from sun- or shade-dried grapes with no added must, concentrate or alcohol); white semi-sparkling wine dry and semi-dry (1-2.5 bar, CO2 of endogenous origin, traditional local technique). Maximum yields are not stated: the text defers them to the ministerial decisions recognising the PDO and PGI wines of Macedonia. Sugar is given as total sugars. The semi-sweet rosé needs a higher natural strength (11.0 %) than its actual strength (10.5 %), as printed; the semi-sweet white actual strength is printed '10,.0'. White and rosé wines are fermented at no more than 20 °C; sweetening is permitted for semi-dry, semi-sweet and sweet wines. Liastos, liqueur and semi-sparkling wines are said to use the varieties of the PGI Peloponnese list (apparently a copy error) grown in named Macedonian areas (Siatista, Kastoria, Drama; Pieria, Evros; Florina). White varieties include Assyrtiko, Malagousia, Roditis, Xinomavro, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc; red include Xinomavro, Negoska, Limnio, Agiorgitiko, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. The zone covers listed Macedonian prefectures, some with altitude limits (e.g. Thessaloniki 50-800 m, Kastoria 600-1000 m, Kozani 250 m and above), so no single altitude is recorded. A labelling clause names PGI Dodecanese (a copy error); 'Ρομπόλα' may not be named on white wine labels.
